Level Up your Remote Interviews
Remote interviews
Remote interviewing is becoming more common every day. So it might be time to prepare for your virtual interview using your phone or laptop. While enrolled in a CSS Career Support Course, students practice a Sterile Processing interview over Zoom Meetings. From our manager’s years of experience, we have a unique and insightful perspective of what most interviewers are looking for. So we stress the importance of being prepared.
Statistics you might want to know
Video interviews have become increasingly popular, and could be a norm for certain medical facilities. Even though they may never completely replace face-to-face interviews, CSS believes it is a great idea to prepare for video interviews.
Convenience and flexibility benefit both hiring managers and job applicants. With remote interviews, there’s no need to travel and be stuck in traffic.
Reports show in 2022 alone, 74% of U.S. recruiters agreed that the online interview process made their life easier. 50% of the time has been saved by using the video intervening process for hiring employees in 2023. These savings will make remote calls a commonly used practice and will continue to impact how common of a practice it is in the future.
How to prepare. Practice, practice, and practice again.Â
There are only a handful of video conferencing apps used in professional settings, so it’s a good idea to download them ahead of time. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meets are very common, but others do exist. CSS recommends downloading these apps and creating profiles ahead of a possible interview. This will help students stay ahead of any possible delays that may occur. There is nothing worse than downloading a new app, creating an account, and granting security permissions 5 minutes before something as important as a job interview. Download them now, you’ll thank us later.
Review the common questions available to download in this course. Practice your answers by writing them down. Video chat with a trusted friend; someone that you can trust who will give you honest professional feedback. Take their feedback into consideration and update your answers. Repeat this process until you have ironed out your answers and are confident with your delivery.
Pro Tip: Due to internet speeds/delays, guests may tend to talk over one another on a video call. Make sure to acknowledge any delays in the meeting app, and pause adequately before you answer the interviewer’s questions.
Video setup like a pro
You don’t need a professional camera setup, it’s safe to assume the phone you own has enough megapixels to get the job done. In fact, most professional filmmakers/YouTubers use their cell phones to record videos, and paying for expensive equipment is a thing of the past. Set your camera/phone/laptop at eye level (make sure you’re able to look straight at the camera without having the need to look down or up). You may need to adjust this to find the sweet spot. Use whatever you have around to adjust the height.
Lighting 101
A dark or poorly lit environment is the enemy of good video quality. Use what you have. Open a window and use natural sunlight. If you don’t have….
